چکیده

TCP Vegas version is expected to achieve higher throughput than TCP Tahoe and Reno versions, which are currently used in the Internet. However, we need to consider a migration path of TCP Vegas when it is deployed in the Internet. In this paper, we focus on the situation where multiple TCP Reno and Vegas connections coexist at the bottleneck router, by which the fairness property is investigated to seek the possibility of future deployment of TCP Vegas. We consider drop-tail and RED (Random Early Detection) algorithms as buffering discipline at the router, and evaluate the effect of RED algorithm on fairness enhancement. From the analysis and the simulation results, we have found the results that the fairness between TCP Reno and Vegas can not be kept at all with drop-tail router. Although RED algorithm improves the fairness to some degree, there are inevitable trade-off between fairness and throughput.

Analysis and Improvement of Fairness between TCP Reno and Vegas for Deployment of TCP Vegas to the Internet

According to the past researches, a TCP Vegas version is able to achieve higher throughput than TCP Tahoe and Reno versions, which are widely used in the current Internet. However, we need to consider a migration path for TCP Vegas to be deployed in the Internet. By focusing on the situation where TCP Reno and Vegas connections share the bottleneck link, we investigate the fairness between two ...

TCP Reno and Vegas co-existence

Several studies have been made comparing performance and fairness of different congestion control algorithms including TCP Reno and TCP Vegas. Those studies primarily focused on showing the advantages of TCP Vegas over TCP Reno in terms of performance, efficiency and fairness, and they show that Reno dominates Vegas in shared network environments. This work presents detailed analysis of the per...

A simulation study on the throughput fairness of TCP Vegas

Tbmugbput fairness is an important d e r i a for evaluating TCP pe fomance. Fairness is especial! important for best effort service, which is still the dominant gpe o f service in the Internet and, predictab!, in the years to come. However, the TCP pmtocols prevailing in the Internet, including TCP Tahoe and TCP Reno, are known to be unfair, especial! to connections with larger mund-tnp delays....

Simulation-based Comparisons of Reno, Vegas and Westwood+ TCP

– During the last 20 years, several congestion control algorithms have been proposed to achieve network stability, fair bandwidth allocation and high resource utilization. This paper aims at comparing three well-known control schemes that are Reno, Vegas and Westwood+ TCP. To the purpose, an extensive set of ns2 simulation results has been collected. In particular, single and multi bottleneck s...
